Soft Matter at Bilkent University: Optical Tweezers, Microswimmers, Nonequilibrium Physics and Brain Networks In this seminar, I will give an overview of the research activities that are being performed at the Soft Matter Lab @ Bilkent University (//softmatter.bilknt.edu.tr). These include four main lines of research:
1) Study of optical forces. This includes the theoretical and experimental study of optical forces, as well as their application to the understanding and measurement of nanoscopic forces.
2) Study of microswimmers, i.e. microscopic and nanoscopic particles capable of self-propulsion. In particular, our focus is on the study of microswimmers in complex and crowded environments.
3) Study of non equilibrium physics. This includes the study of stochastic systems that are driven by multiplicative noise, as well as the investigaiton of some fundamental nonequilibrium equalities, e.g. the Jarzynski equality.
4) Study of brain connectivity using tools borrowed from graph analysis.
