Title: Fast variability in black-hole binaries: accretion and General Relativity

Abstract: I will review the current standpoint of fast variability from stellar binary systems containing a black hole. The large amount of data obtained in the past two decades has led to a significant advancement in our knowledge, although it still needs to be consolidated through new observations. I will present the more recent evidences of General Relativistic effects obtained from the data from NASA’s RossiXTE mission and will present new data from NICER (NASA) and Astrosat (India).
BIO: Prof. Tomaso Belloni studied physics at the University of Milan, the worked at the Max-Planck Institut fuer Extraterretrische Physik in Garching, Germany and at the University of Amsterdam, before joining INAF-Brera Astronomical Observatory in 1999, where he is currently the Director of Research. Since 2012 he is Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton, UK. He works on high-energy emission from X-ray binaries, in particular studying the fast time variability and its connection to General Relativity effects.
