Title: The physics of GRBs and their applications in the multi-messenger era
Date/Time: May 23, 2019 / 10.40-11.30
Place: FENS G032
Abstract: I will discuss observations of Gamma-ray Burst (GRB) afterglows performed in several bands of the electromagnetic spectrum and over very long time scales. Modeling of such observations has shed light on the progenitor, the central engine of the explosion, the ejecta dynamics, the emission mechanism, and the environment of the bursts.
I will also discuss present and future developments, for example electromagnetic follow-up of gravitational wave sources, GRBs as probes of star formation at high redshift, and the use of future observing facilities like Athena in order to study the physics of GRBs.
